The Blustery Day

It has been said that the Autumn wind is natures way of loosening the dead leaves and branches.

The Autumn Wind Blows...

Whirling, howling, whistling.  We cannot see it, smell it or taste it.  But the air that surrounds us is vital for life.  Without it, we would not be able to breathe in oxygen, plants would not be able to survive without carbon dioxide and clouds would not be able to form without moisture carried by the air.  With Autumn upon us, there is a change in atmosphere.  The moving atmosphere can be felt in the form of wind.  These movements of hot and cold air from region to region prevent our planet from becoming overheated or unbearably cold.

Why Does the wind blow?

Super Natural Child: Superheroes ACTIVATE!  Are you interested in wind?  If so, start your quest to find out more.  Become a weather warrior.  Outdoors, make a hot air balloon using a clear garbage bag and a blow dryer (there should be an electrical socket nearby and make sure your parents are helping you.)  Start your quest with a WHY?

Why:  A hot air balloons float because of a difference in air density from the interior air of the balloon and its exterior air.  It demonstrates how hot air is less dense and rises and how cold air is more dense and falls.
What:  As you heat the air in the balloon with the hair dryer, the air molecules move faster.  Some of them escape from the opening at the bottom of the balloon.  This makes the hot air in the balloon less dense than the air that surrounds it, causing a buoyant force upward from the air outside.  As the air inside the balloon cools, it gets denser and the balloon gradually begins to fall.
Who:  You, your family and friends
Where:  Outdoors (there should be an electrical socket nearby)  *ASK AN ADULT TO HELP
When:  On a brisk, blustery, Autumn day
How:  Watch the video below and find out how.  Its a S.N.CH.  Or is it!
